Delegate Selection Meeting

The major business to be conducted at this meeting is the election of our local delegates to the Conservative Party of Canada Convention which will be held in Winnipeg in the period November 13 through 15, 2008. For Convention Information see http://www.conservative.ca/EN/5224/ ; and, additional information packages will be sent to the elected delegates when they register.
Each riding is allowed a total of 11 delegates, of which one is the President of the local association. Up to ten additional delegates may be elected from the membership; one of which must be not more than 23 years of age as of November 15, 2008.
Eligibility for Voting
2008 membership in the Conservative Party of Canada must have been valid on or before May 27, 2008.
For the purposes of accrediting members at the Delegate Selection Meeting, members will be required to provide two (2) pieces of official identification, at least one of which must contain a photo of the member and one must indicate residence.
Pieces of identification accepted by Elections Canada for voter identification at a federal election are acceptable.
Delegate Eligibility
Candidate must have been member of the Party for at least ninety (90) days prior to the date of the Delegate Selection Meeting (i.e. prior to March 19th)
To allow for inadvertent delays in renewal of membership, an individual may run as a delegate provided they meet the other requirements of these Rules, if they are a member in good standing of the Party as of the date of the Delegate Selection Meeting, and were a member of the Party as of the previous calendar year.
Candidate must be an ordinarily resident of the Sarnia Lambton electoral district at the time of the Delegate Selection Meeting.
Candidates must hand in a completed form (attached) prior to the commencement of the meeting. Movers and seconders must be eligible voters as outlined above.
Delegate Costs/Assistance
The delegate is responsible for:
The payment the delegate fee of $650 (early-bird rate) to Conservative Party of Canada. This fee is considered a political donation and thus will yield a tax credit of $425 for an out-of-pocket cost of $225; plus
The cost of travel, accommodation and meals.
The Association will provide a stipend to bring the cost, after tax rebates, down to approximately $1000 to $1300 depending on the expenses incurred by the delegate. Details will be provided to the elected delegates.
